The PMCC is one of the world’s leading cancer centres globally, and provides thousands of cancer sufferers treatment, while simultaneously undertaking important research and education projects. Due to our prior experience in the health sector, Icon won the competitive pitch to design the new PMCC website. Other major drivers for our success were our extensive capabilities with Drupal CMS and skills with communication engagement.

A JOINT PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL CHANGE
With PMCC physically changing locations to its new, state of the art centre in Parkville, Melbourne, they were set on having the new website launch alongside the move. As such, we had to abide by a strict timeline while incorporating a new brand identity, updated content, redesigned website IA and new user personas into an attractive and user-friendly portal.
A CUTTING-EDGE AND INTRICATELY DESIGNED WEBSITE
PMCC wanted this new site to properly cater for the wide range of users it would have, including individuals recently diagnosed with cancer, current patients, practitioners, students, researchers and those wanting to join Peter Mac. As such, it would have to be modern, easy to use and functional, all while being delivered to a tight budget and in a small timeframe.
To properly understand and map user types and construct content journeys, we had to hold multiple stakeholder meetings and have consistent cross-team collaboration. Simple collaborative tools, detailed planning schedules and accurate timelines were utilised to keep track of tasks and ensure we were hitting milestones.
CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH USERS AND STAKEHOLDERS
Before starting the full rebuild, we engaged primary user groups to inform our strategy. This would prove to be crucial to our success, due to the size and complexity of the project and stakeholders involved. This preliminary consultation made sure that there was cooperation and teamwork between us and the range of partners, allowing for a focused UX design backed by the Drupal CMS.
Building off this period of scoping and consultation, we successfully finalised and locked down the IA, wireframes and concept designs, allowing us to swiftly move forward with the development process and keep on track. The strict regulations around design and timings ensured that project requirements where carried out in the optimal order, keeping down time and budget costs without sacrificing quality.
A FRESH AND MODERN WEBSITE DELIVERED ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET
We were successful in launching the project on time and on budget, with the website going live the same day as the move to the new centre. This included the adaption of the new brand onto the site and improved site navigation and IA across all device, helping the PMCC to continue providing world-class care to its patients. The new content management system also allowed for site manages to change and update content and site structure with greater ease, while reducing future cost by moving it on to Drupal.
