While many Australian start-ups fail to gain traction, MyGuestlist can certainly be counted as a success story. Their automated communications and marketing platform sends out over 430 million SMS messages and emails every year, making customer data consolidation and individualised custom campaigns easy for more than 3,000 global businesses.
MyGuestlist engaged us to design the promotional website and software interface for the second major iteration of ‘Sprout’, their automated marketing platform.
THE BEST UX DESIGN FOR A PLATFORM UNLIKE ANY OTHER
With a team of talented software designers and engineers as the driving force behind Sprout, we were encouraged to think ‘design-first’ when crafting the platform’s user experience, with a user interface that needed to be easy to understand, beautiful to look at and functional to use.
The project’s success required that we work closely with the client – something we always encourage and welcome. Our multiskilled team was quick to get to work outlining the scope, understanding systems already in place and building a better user interaction process and journey.
HOW TO DESIGN INNOVATION
While Sprout had already been kicked off internally, the platform needed experts in UX/UI design to rigorously test concepts and ensure the end result was a world-class product. While another team entering a project half-way through can often be disruptive, Icon was quickly and seamlessly integrated with existing teams, and were able to help build on the substantial work and thinking that had already been done. One of the primary challenges we encountered was understanding the team’s short and long-term vision, so that our solution would suit their needs now and in the future.
BUILDING BETTER USABILITY WITH DESIGN SYSTEMS
Our approach to the UX/UI development sprints was aided by our team’s agile methodology, being able to create, test and analyse prototypes alongside the client, then refining our approach based on user and product insights.
Our Design Systems for this project were well-rounded, including the initial brand creation, UX and UI design and tone-of-voice guidelines.
The final product was an interface that is straightforward and easy to use, supported by a fully developed pattern library and a stylish front-end framework. Thanks to this, Sprout’s in-house team now has access to a uniform set of assets for easy use across their platform, speeding up future project delivery and ensuring all new material looks good and stays consistent.
