After winning the Kinetic PR account, we were engaged to undertake a complete rebuild of their website. Their website at the time was limiting in many ways, including being incredibly difficult for managers to update and change content on and the UX being overly complicated. Kinetic were also wanting a custom built and designed CMS that could adapt and grow to meet their needs, rather than relying on more restrictive commercial products.

A REVOLUTIONARY INDUSTRY WEBSITE
Kinetic didn’t want any old website – they wanted something that pushed the boundaries of web design, that expressed the vibrancy and energy of their brand and philosophy of innovation and client service. We worked closely with their marketing/communications team to strip the site down to the essentials, develop a highly functional content architecture and simplify messaging and content on the site. The teams went through a number of prototyping phases to find the perfect look and feel for the site, settling on an interface that was contemporary and designed mobile-first.
AN AGILE APPROACH ALLOWING FOR RIGOROUS TESTING AND BEAUTIFUL DESIGN
Kinetic wanted the project to be run using an Agile approach, giving our team plenty of time and space to prototype a number of UX/UI solutions before settling on and refining a final design. This also allowed the website’s functionality to be designed around the actual site design and behaviour, rather than being rigid and locked into a particular way at the start of the project.
A CMS AND WEBSITE FULL OF COLOUR AND LIFE
The end result was a combination of a fast and easy-to-use CMS and a responsive and vibrant website. The CMS was built from the Laravel PHP framework, and is designed to be fast and flexibly. Aside from an incredible CMS, it also acts as a site builder, allowing admins to change and improve every aspect of the website using a block approach. The content library containing icons, buttons and concertinas doubles as a style guide, giving Kinetic’s editors the ability to build stunning pages in style, and without our help.
The website expresses Kinetic’s brand in a way few other sites do, emphasising the idea of movement and energy, while being functional and designed mobile first. The final result is a site that takes the bland subject matter of superannuation and gives it colour and life.
We aren’t the only ones who thought the website was incredible, with it trumping nearly 200 other sites globally to win the Best in Class Award for its category at the 2015 Interactive Media Awards.
